Hello friends & family,
I hope everyone is enjoying 2012 so far! Through the ups & downs, I would have to say that it has been quite an eventful year so far for me! I have been attending Cross Point Community Church, here in Nashville for just over a year now. Many of you know that in January 2011 I moved away from everything that I ever knew - leaving my home, my family, & my friends- from Waukesha, WI to Nashville, TN! It was a very hard transition for me. This entire journey has literally forced me out of my comfort zone. I’ve been on Mission Trips before & while challenging, I was always able to slowly adjust to my surroundings- so one day I thought to myself, I just have to consider this move as God’s unique “mission trip” for me. I have truly enjoyed living here in Nashville, the friends I’ve made & especially how much this Church emphasizes serving, volunteering & most importantly, being the hands & feet of Jesus to our friends, neighbors, brothers & sisters both across the street & around the world. My experiences here have had such a significant impact on my life & is slowly molding me into the person that God has created me to be!
Towards the end of last year, I had been given the opportunity to lead a group of Young Adults to Uganda to help support a friend's start-up Orphan Care Ministry. However, after much prayer and wisdom from the Missions staff, we felt the prompting to cancel that trip, as some Ministry details and logistics are worked out. I was not sure if God was closing the door completely to travel on a Missions Trip this year, so I began praying about what He wanted me to do. I learned about a couple, Garry & Brenda Kean, that moved their entire family to Kenya to serve as Missionaries there. I was so touched by their story and their Mission, and of course my heart is, and always will be, in Africa.
After prayerful consideration and guidance, I have felt a strong peace and a longing to travel and serve with the Missions team from my church here in Nashville, to Nairobi, Kenya from Oct. 22nd-Nov. 4th. Along with 9 other team members, we will partner with this amazing ministry - Kean & Company.
They have started a church, New Song Nairobi, a sewing micro-enterprise called Jacaranda Creations, and most recently a child sponsorship program called Jacaranda Kids. We will visit homes in several of the cities slums, including Kibera, the second LARGEST slum in the world. We will minister to the men and women who sew, help lead programs for children at various schools within the slums and lead at their church services. I can't tell you how EXCITED I am to encourage, empower & love on these people and share with them the Gospel of Jesus!
Many of us have heard of the orphan crisis & the need for people to GO, to LOVE and to SHARE the love of Christ in authentic & genuine ways, while providing a hope for their futures. I understand that there are some people who are unable to go. If that is you, one way you can still be involved is to partner with me financially in order to help me make this journey to Africa. Our estimated trip costs are approximately $3,000/person (including flights, food, transportation, lodging, insurance, etc.).I am also looking for individual support from my friends & family. I ask you to prayerfully consider helping to send me to a country that my heart breaks for, to help provide hope & love to the mother & fatherless across the world & to support a great ministry! We will be given fundraising deadlines, so I kindly ask that if you are able to provide support, please donate as soon as you are able. There are a few different ways that you can make a donation, but please do not hesitate to contact me directly if you have any questions.
I would also like to offer you the opportunity to join me in praying for this trip. Prayer is essential for our team’s success & safety, health, travel, preparations, etc. I would love to have as many prayer partners as possible that will commit to begin praying for me & for our team as we prepare for the trip, for our team and the people we will be ministering to in Kenya during the trip & also for us as we reflect & process after the trip.
Thank you SO MUCH for your love, support & prayers!
In His Love,
Brenda
